Tops LMArena image-to-video

MiniMax H3

MiniMax

MiniMax's general-purpose multimodal model: clips of up to 15 s[1] at 2K resolution with native stereo sound[2], billed per second on the MiniMax platform API from $0.08/s[3] at the 768P tier[3]. It ranks first[4] on LMArena's image-to-video leaderboard with a score of 1495[4], and open-weight H3-Base checkpoints are published on Hugging Face[5].

Native 4K and app credit plans

Kling 3.0

Kling AI

Kling 3.0 is the video model Kling AI sells today in its app and on its developer API: single takes up to 15 s[6], a native 4K mode[6], multi-shot scenes and native audio, bought as monthly credit plans or prepaid API units[7]. Its successor Kling 4.0 is in early access from 2026-09-28, with full launch stated for October 2026[8]; Kling's API plans do not cover it[7].

Quick verdict

Pick MiniMax H3 on the published record: it is ranked #1[4] on LMArena's image-to-video board at 1495, far above kling-v3-pro at rank #19[9] with 1354, and its API undercuts Kling's at both published tiers: $0.08/s[3] at 768P against $0.126/s[7] at 720p with audio. Pick Kling 3.0 when the output ceiling or an app workflow matters more: Kling renders native 2160p (4K)[6] where MiniMax states a 2K maximum[2], and it sells monthly credit plans from $8.80/mo[10] where H3 is API-only today[3].

Category winners are computed from the sourced rows in the tables below; “Depends” means there was not enough comparable public data to call it.

Summary

MiniMax launched H3 on 2026-07-31[2] as a multimodal generator with native stereo sound[2]; Kling AI announced Kling 3.0 on 2026-02-05 (announcement date)[11]. On paper they overlap heavily: a single generation caps at 15 s[1] for H3 and 15 s[6] for Kling 3.0, and both vendors document native audio, multi-shot scenes, first-and-last-frame control and in-video editing[2][6]. In our generated feature table, every row where both publish data is a tie.

The separation shows in how you buy. H3 is pay-as-you-go on the MiniMax platform, $0.08/s[3] at the 768P tier and $0.13/s[3] at 2K, and MiniMax's prepaid video packages do not support it yet[3]; no consumer subscription for H3 is published. MiniMax has instead released open H3-Base checkpoints on Hugging Face for self-hosting[5]. Kling goes the other way: app memberships from $8.80/mo[10] (Standard, after a $6.99 first month[10]) and prepaid developer units in packages from $700[7].

References and rankings diverge too. H3 accepts up to 12[1] mixed reference files per generation, up to 9 images, 3 videos and 3 audio clips[1]; Kling publishes no reference-input maximum we could find. On LMArena's image-to-video board, the only public leaderboard listing both, H3 scores 1495[4] to kling-v3-pro's 1354[9], a gap far wider than either entry's stated confidence interval. Kling 3.0 holds 44.0[12] on VGI-Bench, where we found no H3 entry.

How rows are judged: a lower price, a longer clip, a higher resolution or frame rate, more reference inputs and a supported feature win. Prices of a discontinued product are shown as historical and cannot win. LMArena scores are human-preference ratings (board snapshot dated 2026-09-21, read 2026-10-07); scores whose ± intervals overlap count as a tie. VGI-Bench is a research benchmark of visual reasoning. A row marked — has no comparable data.

Where each model leads

Where MiniMax H3 leads

Ranking, price and portability. Rank #1[4] on image-to-video and rank #8[15] on text-to-video at LMArena[15], camera moves addressable through bracketed tags like [pan] and [zoom][1], and native multi-shot modeling[2]. The H3-Max speed variant adds a 480P tier at $0.05 per second[3]. For how H3 behaves next to ByteDance's models, see our side-by-side notes on Minimax H3 .

Where Kling 3.0 leads

Resolution ceiling and app workflow. Kling 3.0 is the only one of the two with a native 4K mode (2160p (4K)[6]), added on 2026-04-23[14] and costing 30 credits per second in the app[6]. Its membership ladder runs from a $0 Basic plan (free-credit allowance not published[13]) up to Ultra at $159.99 a month[10], and video extension is included from the Standard plan up[13]. Our walkthrough of JSON motion prompting for Kling 3.0 covers shot-level control.

Both models sit in one AIContentDrop workspace , which offers Seedance 2.5, Minimax H3, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Sora 2, Seedance 2.0, Wan 3.0, Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana 2, ChatGPT Image 2.0 and many more. Sora 2 can no longer be generated, because OpenAI shut the Sora API down on 2026-09-24 (see our Sora status page). Plans start at $19/mo, or $14/mo billed annually, and new accounts get 10 free credits[16]; the plan and credit breakdown lists the rest.

Which should you choose?

Pick MiniMax H3 if…

you build against an API or self-host: H3 is cheaper at every published tier[3], tops the image-to-video arena[4], and ships open H3-Base weights[5].

Pick Kling 3.0 if…

you want an app with monthly credits, native 2160p (4K)[6] output, or built-in video extension[13] — H3 publishes no app plan[3], no 4K tier[2] and no extension feature we could find.

Frequently asked questions

Is MiniMax H3 really ranked above Kling 3.0?

On LMArena's image-to-video board, yes: minimax-h3 is rank #1[4] with 1495 while kling-v3-pro is rank #19[9] with 1354, a gap far larger than either confidence interval. There is no text-to-video comparison: we found no Kling 3.0 entry on that board, where H3 ranks #8[15].

Which costs less to run?

Per API second, H3: $0.08/s[3] at 768P and $0.13/s[3] at 2K, against Kling 3.0's $0.126/s[7] at 720p with audio and $0.168/s[7] at 1080p. For app budgets only Kling publishes a plan, renewing from $8.80/mo[10][10].

What resolution does each model reach?

Kling 3.0 renders native 2160p (4K)[6][14]. MiniMax states H3 generates up to 15 s[1] at 2K resolution[2] and sells 768P and 2K API tiers[3]; no 4K option is published.

Can I self-host MiniMax H3?

Partly. MiniMax released open H3-Base checkpoints (the FL2VA and Ref2VA variants) on Hugging Face under its community license, but the 2K-regeneration and context modules are not open-sourced[5]. We found no open-weights offer for Kling 3.0, which runs in Kling's app and developer API[7].

Do both generate audio?

Yes. H3 outputs native stereo sound[2], and Kling 3.0's Native Audio mode covers dialogue, ambience, sound effects and lip movement[13].
