Longer single takes, cheaper app entry

Kling 3.0

Kling AI

Kling 3.0 is the video model Kling AI sells today in its app and on its developer API: single takes up to 15 s[1], a native 4K mode[1], multi-shot scenes and native audio, bought as monthly credit plans or prepaid API units[2]. Its successor Kling 4.0 is in early access from 2026-09-28, with full launch stated for October 2026[3]; Kling's API plans do not cover it[2].

Published per-second API pricing

Veo 3.1

Google

Google's current video model: 8 s[4] clips that extend to 148 s[4] at 720p, 4K output on 8-second clips[4] and native audio[5], billed per second in the Gemini API[6].

Quick verdict

Pick Kling 3.0 if you work in an app and want long single takes: one generation runs up to 15 s[1], and the cheapest paid plan renews at $8.80/mo[7] after a $6.99 first month. Pick Veo 3.1 if you build on an API and want the lower entry rate: Google publishes per-second prices from $0.05/s[6] (Lite, 720p) to $0.60/s[6] (Standard, 4K), while Kling's own rate card runs from $0.126/s[2] (720p with native audio) to $0.42/s[2].

Category winners are computed from the sourced rows in the tables below; “Depends” means there was not enough comparable public data to call it.

Summary

Both models are live, both reach 4K, and both generate sound with the picture. Kling AI announced Kling 3.0 on 2026-02-05 (announcement date)[8], with early access for Ultra subscribers first, and added a native 4K mode on 2026-04-23[9]. Veo 3.1 reached the Gemini API on 2025-10-15[10] and is still a paid preview there[10]; its 1080p and 4K output is limited to 8-second clips[4].

The real split is length versus extension. Kling makes one continuous take of up to 15 seconds[1]. Veo 3.1 caps a single generation at 8 s[4] but can extend a clip 7 seconds at a time, up to 148 s[4] at 720p. Billing differs too: Veo 3.1 is sold per second of output in the Gemini API, while Kling sells monthly credit plans for the app and prepaid units for its developer API[2].

The public leaderboards split. On LMArena's image-to-video board, veo-3.1-audio scores 1398[11] against 1354[11] for kling-v3-pro. On VGI-Bench, a research benchmark of visual reasoning, Kling 3.0 scores 44.0[12] to Veo 3.1's 32.0[12]. They measure different things, so neither settles quality alone.

Kling 3.0 leads 1 row, Veo 3.1 leads 1, 0 tied; rows marked — have no comparable data or no objective “better”.

How rows are judged: a lower price, a longer clip, a higher resolution or frame rate, more reference inputs and a supported feature win. Prices of a discontinued product are shown as historical and cannot win. LMArena scores are human-preference ratings (board snapshot dated 2026-09-21, read 2026-10-07); scores whose ± intervals overlap count as a tie. VGI-Bench is a research benchmark of visual reasoning. A row marked — has no comparable data.

Where each model leads

Where Kling 3.0 leads

Length and shot structure. 15 s[1] per take against 8 s[4], plus multi-shot generation inside one clip[1]. With native audio on, a 1080p second costs 12 credits (9 at 720p)[1]. The free Basic plan costs $0, and Kling publishes no free-credit allowance for it[14]. For multi-shot prompt structure, see our Kling 3.0 motion-JSON prompt guide .

Where Veo 3.1 leads

Transparent API billing. Per second with audio at 720p: Standard $0.40/s, Fast $0.10/s, Lite $0.05/s[6]. Veo also takes up to 3[4] reference images and supports first and last frame control[10]. The Gemini API has no free tier for Veo 3.1[6], and Google AI Pro ($19.99/mo[13]) includes only a limited trial of Veo 3.1 Lite; full Veo 3.1 starts with Google AI Ultra, from $99.99/mo[13].

To run one prompt through both, AIContentDrop lists Seedance 2.5, Minimax H3, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Sora 2, Seedance 2.0, Wan 3.0, Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana 2, ChatGPT Image 2.0 and many more under one credit balance. Sora 2 itself can no longer be generated anywhere, because OpenAI shut the Sora API down on 2026-09-24 (see our Sora status page). Its credit pricing is listed per model.

Which should you choose?

Pick Kling 3.0 if…

you generate in an app, want single takes of up to 15 s[1] or multi-shot scenes, and prefer a low monthly plan to per-second billing.

Pick Veo 3.1 if…

you need an API with a published per-second price, reference-image control, or videos longer than Kling's 15 s[1] ceiling, built from extensions.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kling 3.0 or Veo 3.1 cheaper?

It depends on how you buy. Kling's cheapest paid plan renews at $8.80/mo[7] (Standard, after a $6.99 first month). On the APIs, Veo 3.1 is billed per second from $0.05/s[6] (Lite, 720p) to $0.60/s[6] (Standard, 4K), and Kling 3.0 from $0.126/s[2] (720p with native audio) to $0.42/s[2] (4K); Kling also lists $0.084 per second for silent 720p[2].

Which makes longer videos?

Kling 3.0 makes the longer single take: 15 s[1] against 8 s[4] for Veo 3.1. With extensions, Veo 3.1 reaches 148 s[4] at 720p.

Do both generate audio?

Yes. Kling 3.0 generates dialogue, ambience and effects with lip movement[14], and Veo 3.1 generates native audio with every video[5].

Can I try either for free?

Kling's Basic plan costs $0, but Kling publishes no free-credit allowance for it, so you cannot tell in advance how much output it buys[14]. The Gemini API lists no free tier for Veo 3.1[6].
